Day 8-California, con't

Just arrived in Nevada City-chez Rebecca and Coulter! Coulter had beers and a warm grill waiting for us--and I'm about to jump into the pool!

It feels good to be here...

Berkeley tomorrow.

Day 8-California

Just crossed the Nevada/California State line.

I can't believe this trip is almost over. Can we turn around and do it do again? This time, maybe, we'll take the northern route and not drive a 16ft moving truck??

Anybody?

Day 8-Nevada

I didn't realize how many prisons there were in Nevada. But come to think of it, it makes a whole lot of sense....

They could use some windmills here.

Day 7-Salt Lake City

Spending the evening in the land of 3.2% beer...

Day 7-Moab

Spent the night in downtown Moab last night and woke up early this morning and headed to Arches National Park for a half day of hiking.

The park is absolutely breathtaking and I can't believe it has taken me this long to visit. Pictures do not do this place justice and if you haven't already been, you must see it in person!!

We drove up to the end of the park to the Devils Garden Trailhead and hiked 2 miles to Landscape Arch, stopping by some other arches along the way. Unfortunately, we couldn't proceed any further as last week, Wall Arch collapsed (what timing!) and they shut down the rest of the trail.

We decided to then go see the Delicate Arch, one of the most popular arches in the park. The 4 mile hike starts with a Ute petroglyph panel (very cool!) and then the trail becomes a steep ascent to Delicate Arch. We were mostly hiking up slickrock and following cairns along the way. It then turns into a knee-wobbling narrow ledge and just after a few yards, we turned the corner and there it was....

We spent about an hour up there, just taking it all in...

Day 6-Colorado, con't

The drive through Colorado today was the most pleasant, scenic and peaceful stretch of the entire trip.

Stopped in Vail and then continued on the I-70, through Glenwood Canyon, which hugs the north side of the Colorado River. We spotted some rafters-which brought back memories of our big Colorado River trip last summer!! This state is just so majestic and truly one of my favorite places. I don't come here enough.

Staying the night in Moab...going hiking in Arches tomorrow!
